Drexel Theatre, 2254 E. Main St., Bexley, OH 43209 - The Healthcare Movie provides the real story of how the health care systems in Canada and the United States evolved to be so completely different, when at one point they were essentially the same. Most people under the age of 50, in both countries, are not aware of the intensity of the political struggle that led to the universal medical care system in Canada. Nor are they aware of the public relations campaigns, still active today, that have been prevalent in the United States since the early 1900’s to dissuade the public from supporting national health care. Running time 65 minutes.
Narrated by Kiefer Sutherland. Discussion to follow with host Kurt Bateman.

At the Neon Theater. 130 East 5th Street, Dayton, OH 45402.
During the healthcare reform debate, the media failed to put a human face on what it means to not have access to healthcare. Over 3 days in April 2012, Remote Area Medical, the pioneers of “no-cost” healthcare clinics, treated nearly 2,000 patients on the infield of Bristol, Tennessee’s massive NASCAR speedway. REMOTE AREA MEDICAL affords us an insider’s perspective on the ebb and flow of the event. It is the extraordinary stories of the patients, desperate for medical attention, that create a lasting impression about the state of modern healthcare in America. A panel discussion will be held after the movie with local physicians and health policy advocates.

Fix It is the work of Richard Master, CEO of MCS Industries in Pennsylvania. Frustrated by double digit increases in healthcare premiums year after year, he set out to find out where they money was going. He knew it wasn't going into better coverage for his employees. The more he learned, the more upset he became. So, he hired a film crew and a director and decided to share his findings and his solution. As Richard Master says, "We can Fix It!"

Cleveland Heights, OH 44118
Co-sponsored by SPAN Ohio and DUH (Demonstration/Drive/Demand for Universal Healthcare)
Space is limited, so please reserve your seat now at EVENTBRITE.
6:30 PM There will be a rally near the Cedar Lee Theater to oppose the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP). This agreement has been put on hold during the election season, but President Obama and Republican leaders support these trade bills. President Obama has stated that he will try to get it passed during the lame duck session of congress, despite the opposition to it by both presidential candidates as well as large sections of the American people. This is part of National Action Days to Stop TPP.
The TPP is more than a trade agreement. It would also govern environmental, consumer, and internet rules, among others. It would affect health care by extending drug monopolies, and could override governmental intervention into health care. Doctors Without Borders calls it "a Bad Deal for Medicine."
Speakers at the rally include
- Michelle Mahon, RN, Organizer for National Nurses Union
- Beverly Charles, aide to Congresswoman Marcia. Fudge
- Harriet Applegate, executive director of the North Shore AFL-CIO
